Is this the right wallet for you?

A good fit if

You already use Model One with a computer or compatible Android phone and can read its screen to check transactions. Ending sales did not end its documented support.

Consider another model if

You need to approve payments with an iPhone or enter a passphrase entirely on the hardware wallet. Model One cannot do either: it signs over USB with a computer or compatible Android phone, and passphrases are entered in Trezor Suite on that connected device.

USB signing in the current Trezor Suite Android app requires Android 12 or later and a data cable or adapter matching the phone and Model One’s micro-USB port. Fresh-device setup has not been established here because the official setup instructions conflict. ETH requires Universal firmware.

Sales ended; support continues

Trezor stopped selling Model One through its own shop on 8 January 2026. Its published commitments are basic maintenance until at least 2031 and critical security fixes until at least 2036.

Ending sales alone does not mean you need to replace a working Model One. Those commitments do not promise new coin support for this model or guarantee that every future app and feature will work. Use this page’s compatibility details for your computer or phone, and check the exact asset and network you need.

Use USB with a computer or compatible Android phone

Trezor Suite is the app you use alongside Model One. On a computer, it supports setup and transaction signing over USB. The current Android app supports USB signing and requires Android 12 or later, with a data cable or adapter that fits your phone and Model One’s micro-USB port.

For first setup, use Trezor Suite Desktop on a computer. Trezor’s Model One instructions conflict about Android setup, so we have not confirmed that route. Android signing support does not establish that setup, recovery or firmware updates work the same way.

On iPhone, Suite can show imported accounts, but it cannot connect to Model One to approve payments. Viewing an account balance does not mean the phone can sign a transaction.

Universal and Bitcoin-only are firmware choices on the same Model One hardware. Bitcoin-only supports Bitcoin; Ethereum requires Universal. For another asset, open Trezor’s asset directory, select Model One and check the asset, network and app. Universal does not mean every asset or task works in Suite.

With Universal firmware, Model One can act as a U2F security key: it adds a second factor alongside your password. It does not support FIDO2 passkeys or passwordless sign-in. U2F is unavailable with Bitcoin-only firmware.

Read the device screen; enter the PIN in Suite

Model One’s two buttons confirm requests on the device. To unlock it, read the shuffled number grid on its screen and select the matching positions in Trezor Suite. The buttons do not enter your PIN, and the numbers in a photograph will not match every session.

When sending a payment, prepare it in Suite and check the transaction details on Model One before using the buttons to approve. If the screen is unreadable, do not approve blindly.

A passphrase is an optional extra password used with your recovery phrase to open a separate wallet. Model One requires you to type it in Suite on the connected computer or phone. You need the exact same passphrase to return to that wallet; resetting the device cannot recover a forgotten one.

Trezor’s photograph shows an example PIN grid. Read the numbers on your own Model One and select their positions in Suite; do not copy the pictured arrangement.

Have a usable backup before a reset or firmware update

Your PIN unlocks this device. Your recovery phrase restores the wallet after a reset or on a compatible replacement, together with the exact passphrase if you used one. Before resetting Model One or updating its firmware, make sure that recovery information is available.

Normal setup creates a 24-word BIP39 recovery phrase; creating 12 words requires advanced setup. Model One can restore 12-, 18- or 24-word BIP39 phrases, but not SLIP39 recovery shares. Before restoring onto a replacement, check that it supports your backup format and the assets and networks you use.

If you can unlock Model One and read its screen, Check backup in Suite on a computer can compare your saved phrase with the backup stored on the device without resetting it. Use Advanced Recovery, which lets you select positions in Suite without typing whole recovery words. A matching result does not check your passphrase or prove that another model can restore the wallet. The linked guide explains the procedure and the restrictions on Standard Recovery.

Firmware is the software on Model One itself; updating it is a separate step from updating the Trezor Suite app on your computer or phone. A device firmware update can erase the configured wallet. If your backup is missing or fails a check, keep Model One configured and resolve that before updating its firmware or resetting it. The guide also explains the options after long storage, including the special wipe risk when updating from firmware 1.6.1.
