Is this the right wallet for you?

A good fit if

You want a card-sized wallet for use with your phone, without a cable or battery to charge. You are comfortable checking payments on the phone’s screen.

  • Card-sized
  • No cable or battery
  • You check on the phone

Consider another model if

You want to verify the recipient and amount on a separate wallet screen, or use a computer. Tangem cards have no screen or buttons and need a compatible NFC phone. Trezor Safe 3 and Trezor Safe 5 offer a separate screen and USB use with compatible computers and compatible Android phones; neither signs with an iPhone.

  • No separate screen
  • No computer support
  • Needs an NFC phone

Living with Tangem Wallet

Choose your backup before creating the wallet.

Before you buy

The phone, the cards and the backup

No screen: check on the phone

Phone review, card signature

Check the transfer on your phone, then hold one card to it to sign.

Some phones read a card but can’t link backup cards. Find your model in Tangem’s scan guide.

Size, power and build

Power and build

There is nothing to charge: the card draws power from the phone’s NFC during a scan.

The secure element is CC EAL6+ certified. That rates the chip, not the whole wallet.

Choose two or three cards

Any one card can sign

Any linked card can sign; a three-card pack leaves two if you lose one.

Choose a recovery phrase before setup, if you want one. A seedless wallet can’t add one later.

What comes in each pack

Cards and setup paperwork

Both packs include the cards, a getting-started leaflet and a specifications sheet.

First day

Once, with every card at hand

Set up and link your cards

Link every card before Finalize

Choose seedless or phrase-based setup, then finish linking every card before funding the wallet.

Link every intended card before choosing Finalize backup; the set cannot accept another afterwards.

Importing a passphrase walletOptional

With an existing recovery phrase

When importing a phrase, enter its exact passphrase in the Tangem app on your phone.

Every day

Each time you receive or pay

Receive a payment, 3 steps

Choose the receiving account

Open the asset and network in the Tangem app, then copy the receiving address.

The card cannot display the address. Ask the sender to check their final entry against your original receiving details.

Check on the phone, scan to sign, 5 steps

One card signs, the app sends

Check the final transfer on the phone, hold one card to sign, then follow its network status.

A finished scan isn’t arrival: follow the payment in the app history or a block explorer.

Now and then

Keeping the app and backup in order

Keep your backup working

Keep cards apart and usable

Store the cards separately and decide whether each should be able to help reset a forgotten code.

Updates: the app only

Card firmware is fixed

The cards’ firmware is fixed; update the Tangem phone app through its official store.

If something goes wrong

Lost phone, lost card or forgotten code

Restore or import a phrase

Import needs a saved phrase

A remaining card already holds access; a saved phrase can restore into a new compatible set.

If every card is lost from a seedless wallet, there is no recovery phrase to restore access.

Forgot your access code

Needs two cards from the set

Reset it with that card and another working card from the same set, both with code recovery on.

A card with code recovery off can’t be reset, or help reset another card’s code.

Lost a card

Others work · no replacement

A usable remaining card still gives access, but a finalized set cannot accept a replacement.

You can’t block the missing card or add a replacement to the completed set.

Lost or replaced your phone

The cards hold the keys

Install the Tangem app on a compatible phone, then scan a working card and enter its access code.

A Tangem Mobile Wallet is different: its keys are held on the phone, not on the cards.

No screen: check on the phone

Check the transfer on your phone, then hold one card to it to sign.

Some phones read a card but can’t link backup cards. Find your model in Tangem’s scan guide.

The phone shows the recipient, amount and fee. Phone biometrics can replace typing the access code when your settings allow; signing still needs a card scan.

Hold the card for the whole scan

Position
Use the top of the back on iPhone; the NFC position varies on Android. Hold the card still until the scan finishes.
Access code
Keep the card away while entering its code on the phone. Remove it after each scan; avoid storing it in the phone case.

Choose two or three cards

Any linked card can sign; a three-card pack leaves two if you lose one.

Choose a recovery phrase before setup, if you want one. A seedless wallet can’t add one later.

There is no main card. Two remaining cards can reset a forgotten code if both work and have code recovery enabled.

Choose the backup mode before setup

Seedless
Keys are generated inside the card. The linked cards are the only backup; losing every card means losing access.
Recovery phrase
The phone app generates 12 or 24 words for you to write down, then imports the derived keys into the cards. A saved phrase can restore in a compatible wallet.

A finalized set cannot grow

Link every intended card before finalizing. Wallet 1.0 cards cannot join a second-generation set and have no recovery-phrase option.

If Tangem’s company shuts down

Transfers do not use Tangem’s servers, but the cards still need a compatible app.

Tangem says an installed app is not deleted if app stores remove it. Its open-source code allows a replacement to be developed; that is not a promise of indefinite phone compatibility.

The remaining dependencies

Configured cards
A seedless wallet still needs a usable card and an app that can communicate with it. A saved phrase provides a compatible-wallet alternative.
New cards
Each card’s first scan needs an online authenticity certificate before setup can continue offline.

First day · 6 of 16

Set up and link your cards

Choose seedless or phrase-based setup, then finish linking every card before funding the wallet.

Link every intended card before choosing Finalize backup; the set cannot accept another afterwards.

You’ll need

  • At least two empty second-generation cards, with every intended backup card at hand
  • A compatible full-NFC phone and the official Tangem app
  • Internet access for each card’s first certificate scan
  • Pen and paper if you choose a recovery phrase

In the app’s hardware-wallet route, choose Tangem Card or Ring. Follow the complete procedure for your chosen backup below; both finish by setting a code in the phone app and scanning the linked cards.

Stop if the authenticity check fails

Do not fund a wallet someone else has already created. Tangem Mobile Wallet is separate: Create seed phrase wallet creates phone-held keys, not a card wallet.

Bringing an existing phrase instead?A remaining card already holds access; a saved phrase can restore into a new compatible set.

Assets, networks and accounts

Choose the exact asset and network; multiple accounts still belong to the same wallet.

Two different choices

Asset and network
USDT on Ethereum and USDT on Tron are different routes. A matching name or similar address does not prove network compatibility.
Account
Tangem can hold multiple accounts with separate addresses and balances within one wallet; this does not create another recovery phrase or card set.

Importing a passphrase wallet

When importing a phrase, enter its exact passphrase in the Tangem app on your phone.

This is the passphrase used with the original recovery phrase, not a card’s access code. Omitting or changing it opens a different wallet.

Check the import requirementsA remaining card already holds access; a saved phrase can restore into a new compatible set.

Receive a payment

Open the asset and network in the Tangem app, then copy the receiving address.

The card cannot display the address. Ask the sender to check their final entry against your original receiving details.

Receiving funds needs no card scan, though opening the app may require authentication. Choose the intended account before copying its address.

Steps

  1. In the Tangem app

    Step 1:Open Receive

Open the asset on the agreed network and choose Receive, or Add funds → Receive.

  2. In the Tangem app

    Step 2:Copy the receiving details

Copy or share the address, asset, network and any required memo or tag.

  3. You

Step 3:Check the sender’s final entry

    Someone sending to you

Ask them to compare their final pasted address, network and any memo with your original details before approving.

    Your own exchange withdrawal

Select the matching asset and network, then compare the final pasted address and any memo with the Tangem app.

Confirm the test arrives first

Ask the sender for a small test; confirm it is credited to the intended Tangem account before requesting the remainder. For your own withdrawal, send the test and wait for that credit yourself.

Every day · 10 of 16

Check on the phone, scan to sign

Check the final transfer on the phone, hold one card to sign, then follow its network status.

A finished scan isn’t arrival: follow the payment in the app history or a block explorer.

You’ll need

  • Current original receiving details from the recipient or receiving wallet, obtained through a trusted channel
  • The correct asset and network, any required memo or tag, and enough balance for fees
  • One usable linked card

Steps

  1. In the Tangem app

    Step 1:Prepare the transfer

Open the asset, choose Transfer → Send, then enter amount, the original recipient address and any required memo or tag; avoid transaction-history addresses.

  2. You

    Step 2:Compare the final form

Match the final pasted address, asset, network and any memo or tag to the originals. Review the amount and displayed fee before choosing Send.

  3. In the Tangem app

    Step 3:Authorize on the phone

Enter the card’s access code on the phone, or use permitted phone biometrics. Keep the card away during code entry.

  4. With a card

Step 4:Hold the card to sign

Hold one linked card at the phone’s NFC area until the scan finishes.

  5. In the Tangem app

    Step 5:Follow the result

Check the transaction in history or the explorer. A completed scan is not confirmation that the recipient has received it.

Keep your backup working

Store the cards separately and decide whether each should be able to help reset a forgotten code.

What the app can tell you

Linked-device count
The displayed two or three devices are the original set count. It stays the same if a card is reset, so it does not prove every backup still works.
Seed badge
It identifies a phrase-based wallet. The app and cards cannot show the recovery words again; preserve your written backup.
Code recovery
A code reset needs recovery enabled on the affected card and on another linked card used to help it.

Now and then · 12 of 16

Updates: the app only

The cards’ firmware is fixed; update the Tangem phone app through its official store.

If something goes wrong · 13 of 16

Restore or import a phrase

A remaining card already holds access; a saved phrase can restore into a new compatible set.

If every card is lost from a seedless wallet, there is no recovery phrase to restore access.

You’ll need

  • Your 12, 15, 18, 21 or 24 BIP39 words
  • The exact original passphrase, if used
  • At least two empty second-generation cards and a compatible NFC phone

In the hardware-wallet route, choose Other options → Import wallet. Enter the words and any original passphrase in the phone app, tap Import and scan the first card. Then complete the backup using Tangem’s full procedure below.

Same keys, not a fresh start

Importing does not revoke an old or lost card. Tangem must support the asset, network and address type; a different account derivation path can hide an old account.

Need fresh keys instead?A usable remaining card still gives access, but a finalized set cannot accept a replacement.

If something goes wrong · 14 of 16

Forgot your access code

Reset it with that card and another working card from the same set, both with code recovery on.

A card with code recovery off can’t be reset, or help reset another card’s code.

Open the affected card’s access-code recovery route in the app. Set and confirm the new code before the reset’s alternating scans: affected card, second eligible card, then affected card again. Only the selected card’s code changes.

Card and code possibly in other hands?

Changing another card’s code does not block the missing one. Move funds to fresh keys while a remaining card can still authorize.

If something goes wrong · 15 of 16

Lost a card

A usable remaining card still gives access, but a finalized set cannot accept a replacement.

You can’t block the missing card or add a replacement to the completed set.

You’ll need

  • A remaining card that can still authorize transfers
  • A separate destination supporting the assets and networks you will move
  • Enough balance for network fees

To move to fresh keys

  1. Keep the remaining card configured and usable; do not reset it or reuse it for the new wallet.
  2. Create a separate new wallet. Complete and verify its backup using that wallet’s own procedure.
  3. Obtain its receiving address and any memo. Verify them by the destination wallet’s procedure and match the asset and network.
  4. In Tangem’s Send form, enter the address and any required memo or tag. Match the full address, network and reference to the verified details; review amount and fee, then send a small test.
  5. Confirm the test is credited to the intended destination account before moving the remainder. Keep the old card usable until everything arrives.

A saved phrase offers a different route

Importing the phrase into empty compatible cards reaches the same wallet; it does not block the missing card. Use fresh keys if compromise is possible.

A Tangem Mobile Wallet is different: its keys are held on the phone, not on the cards.
