Is this the right wallet for you?

A good fit if

You use a computer or Android phone and prefer a wallet without a battery to charge. You are comfortable reading details on a small screen and using two buttons.

Consider another model if

You need to approve payments with an iPhone or want wireless use. For frequent transactions, you may prefer a larger touchscreen to moving through details with buttons.

A cable for power and transactions

Nano S Plus stays connected by USB while you use it. It has no battery to charge and no Bluetooth. Use it with a computer or a compatible Android phone; it cannot approve payments with an iPhone.

With Android, the phone must run Android 10 or later and support USB OTG, which lets it communicate with an attached device. The cable must carry data. The listed offer includes a USB-C-to-USB-A cable; a phone or computer with only USB-C ports may need another data cable or a suitable adapter.

The left and right buttons move through choices. Briefly pressing both selects the item shown; holding both opens the Control Center instead. The small screen presents details in stages. For an ordinary payment, read the full recipient address, amount and fees before briefly pressing both buttons at the final approval screen. Reject anything that does not match your intended payment. Approval signs the transaction; confirmation on the network comes afterwards.

The setup, apps and receiving sections below explain what to prepare before a first transfer. For a request from a decentralized app, also check what permission you are granting; this ordinary-payment flow is not proof that every contract request can be fully read on Nano S Plus.

Start a new wallet or restore one you already have

Download Ledger Wallet from Ledger’s official download page for your computer or Android phone. Connect Nano S Plus with a data cable and follow the app’s setup instructions. If you already have recovery words for the accounts you want to use, choose restoration on the device. Set up as new device creates a different wallet with new recovery words.

For a new wallet, use the device buttons to select Set up as new device, choose your own 4–8-digit PIN and enter it again to confirm. Write down the 24 words displayed on Nano S Plus in order, then confirm the requested words on the device. The PIN unlocks this device; the recovery words back up the wallet’s keys.

Keep the words private and offline. Do not photograph them or enter them into Ledger Wallet, a website or a support message. If a new device arrives with a PIN or a completed recovery sheet, do not use it. Contact Ledger Support through the official setup instructions.

When Nano S Plus shows Your device is now ready, continue the setup in Ledger Wallet, including its Genuine Check. This checks for a genuine Secure Element; it does not prove the device has never been physically modified. If the check fails, stop and follow Ledger’s official support instructions before funding an account. Once setup is complete, install the needed device app and add an account as described next.

What the 1.5 MB of storage is for

Ledger Wallet runs on your phone or computer. The small apps installed on Nano S Plus have a different job: they let the device work with particular blockchain networks. For Bitcoin, for example, you install the Bitcoin app on the device and add a Bitcoin account in Ledger Wallet. The 1.5 MB limits which device apps can be installed together, not the amount of crypto in your accounts. Apps vary in size.

In Ledger Wallet, open My Ledger from the Profile menu: top-right on desktop or top-left on Android. Connect and unlock Nano S Plus, allow My Ledger on the device when asked, then find the required app in the App catalog and install it. Briefly press both device buttons to open that app when Ledger Wallet asks.

Then add the account in Ledger Wallet: on desktop, use Accounts → Add account; in a newly installed Ledger Wallet, use Add crypto account on Home if Accounts is unavailable. On Android, start from Home and use Add, or scroll to Accounts and choose Add account if you already have accounts. Choose the asset and follow the prompts to add the account. Ledger Wallet stores public-address information and displays the balance; the wallet’s private keys remain on Nano S Plus. Once added, you can view the balance without connecting the device.

For another coin or token, check its exact network and whether it works in Ledger Wallet or needs a compatible wallet app. Available device storage also depends on Ledger OS and app sizes. Removing a device app frees space without removing the wallet’s keys or moving its assets; the sequence below shows what changes.

Removing an app, without resetting the device
  1. Blockchain app
    App installed

The device can use this app with a compatible wallet application to sign transactions for its supported network.

  2. Blockchain app
    App removed

That app’s storage space is freed. To use it again, you need to reinstall it.

  3. Blockchain app
    App reinstalled

With the same wallet keys, the supported app can work with the same accounts again.

  • Keys stay on the device

Removing a blockchain app does not delete the wallet’s private keys.

  • Accounts and assets

Ledger Wallet displays your accounts and reads their balances from the network. Removing a device app does not transfer or erase those assets.

Verify the receiving address before sending funds

First install the blockchain app on Nano S Plus and add the account in Ledger Wallet. Choose the account for the asset and network you intend to receive. If withdrawing from an exchange, its withdrawal network must match that account’s network.

On desktop, choose Receive on Home, then Via Crypto address and the account to credit. On Android, open Transfer, choose Receive via crypto address and select the asset and account. Connect and unlock Nano S Plus, open the requested blockchain app, and use Verify on desktop or Verify my address on Android to display the receiving address on the device.

Scroll through the whole address on Nano S Plus and compare it with Ledger Wallet. Confirm on the device only if it matches; reject a mismatch and do not send to that address. Copy the address into the sending wallet or exchange. Then use Re-verify on desktop or Verify your address on Android to display it on Nano S Plus again, and compare the pasted address with the full device address before submitting the withdrawal or transfer.

Send a small amount first and check that it reaches the intended account before sending more. Once the address has been verified, Nano S Plus can be disconnected: the transfer arrives on the blockchain, not inside the device. Ledger Wallet can show it without the device staying plugged in.

Check the written recovery words without resetting

Use Ledger’s Recovery Check app to check that your written recovery words match the wallet’s recovery phrase on Nano S Plus. This is a check on the existing device, not a reset or a new wallet. You need the written words and a device you can unlock.

In My Ledger, find Recovery Check in the App catalog and install it. Disconnect and reconnect Nano S Plus, then unlock it with your regular PIN and open Recovery Check on the device. Do not activate a temporary passphrase or use the secondary PIN for passphrase accounts during this check.

Choose the phrase length and enter all the words in order using only the device buttons. A wallet created by Nano S Plus has 24 words; a restored compatible phrase may have 12, 18 or 24. Phrase is correct confirms that the words entered match. If they do not, check the selected length, spelling and order, and make sure a passphrase was not active. Do not reset the device to test an uncertain backup.

Recovery Check does not verify an optional passphrase. Keep an accurate separate record of that passphrase if you use one. Recovery Check is also different from Ledger Recover, the optional subscription service. You can uninstall Recovery Check afterwards to free storage without deleting the wallet’s keys.

Restore the wallet, then add its accounts

On a new or reset Nano S Plus, choose Restore from recovery phrase to recover the wallet associated with your saved words. Choose a device PIN, select the correct phrase length and enter every word in order using the device buttons. Do not type the words into the computer or phone. Nano S Plus creates 24-word phrases and can restore compatible 12-, 18- or 24-word phrases.

When the device is ready, reinstall the required blockchain apps and add the accounts in Ledger Wallet. Select the existing accounts found during that process. Restoring the words recovers the wallet’s keys; adding accounts lets Ledger Wallet display those accounts and their balances again.

If the accounts you want were protected by an additional passphrase, restore the words and then set that exact passphrase on the device. Activate its wallet before adding accounts: after Attach to PIN, disconnect and reconnect Nano S Plus, then unlock it with the secondary PIN. With Set temporary, enter the passphrase for the current session and add the accounts before disconnecting. A different passphrase opens different accounts, which may be empty. Creating a new passphrase does not restore the old accounts.

If your backup is missing or incorrect but Nano S Plus can still authorize transfers, preserve that access. Set up a separate wallet that supports the assets and networks you need. Record its new backup and check it using that model’s official procedure before transferring. Verify its receiving details, send a small amount first and confirm receipt, then transfer the remaining assets and confirm they arrived. Only then consider resetting or updating the original device. If you have neither usable signing access nor a usable backup or another previously arranged recovery method, a replacement device alone cannot recover access.

Update Ledger OS over USB

Nano S Plus can update Ledger OS through Ledger Wallet on a computer or Android phone, using USB. This is separate from updating Ledger Wallet itself or the blockchain apps installed on the device. Have a usable written recovery phrase available before starting; use Recovery Check first if you are unsure. If the backup is missing, follow the recovery advice above before risking your only signing device.

Update Ledger Wallet, then connect and unlock Nano S Plus. On desktop, open the Profile menu at the top-right and choose My Ledger. On Android, open the Profile menu at the top-left, choose My Ledger and select Nano S Plus in the USB section. Allow My Ledger on the device when asked.

Use Update OS in the desktop notification banner, or Update on Android. Read the instructions and confirm that your recovery phrase is available; the app does not need you to type the words. When Nano S Plus displays New OS and the version, use the right button to reach Confirm update, briefly press both buttons and enter the device PIN.

Keep the cable connected and let the device restart and finish processing. Ledger Wallet displays Your Ledger OS is up to date when the update is complete. Follow any prompts to restore device apps; their updates are managed separately in My Ledger. If no update banner appears, check Ledger’s official instructions: releases can roll out gradually. If the device has reset, restore with your saved words using the recovery steps above rather than creating a different wallet.
